The fourth step on the route to web success is to register your pages with Yahoo!, which is both a directory and a search engine. Because it's one of the best places to find things, it's popular and a must to be listed in. It's easy to find things in Yahoo but a bit tedious to register. Drive on for details.

First, Search Yahoo for Categories
Using keywords pertinent to your page, search Yahoo! to find out which categories your page ought to be listed in. Make a note of the three or four that would be best for you. IMPORTANT!!! Copy and paste the categories (the name, not the http://...) into a readily accessible place like Notepad before you go to the next step.

B Second, Submit Your URL and Description
IMPORTANT!!! Only after you have your selected categories ready to copy and paste, go to Yahoo!'s addURL page and follow the instructions carefully. Copy and paste in the principal category for your listing. Then copy and paste in the additional two or three categories. You can suggest a new category in the unlikely event a suitable one does not yet exist. New categories would most likely be for regional subdivisions that don't yet exist. For example, if you were the only birdhouse builder on Christmas Island, you might suggest a new regional category.

C Third, Check on Your Registration
Sometimes it takes so long (read forever) to get listed in Yahoo!, it's important to check every two weeks on the status of your listing. Here are the main contact points suggested by Yahoo!:
Where's my Site?: Sadly, they simply tell you to resubmit your unlisted URL.
Listing Change Suggestion: Use this entry point to modify your listing.
Dead Links: Use this entry point to report your dead links.
Yahoo! Add Related Questions: This is a reminder on how to add your site.

If you have any general feedback for Yahoo, use the following entry points:
Suggestions for Yahoo: Submit your suggestions to improve Yahoo's service?
The Yahoo! Experience: Almost anything goes here.

[CAUTION! sign]
[blank space] [blank space] Registering with Yahoo! is actually a fairly easy process, but you have to conscious of what you're doing. The first step is to search their database to determine the category or categories your page should be listed in. The second is to submit your URL for listing in the appropriate categories. The wait to get listed is long but it's worth it. That's why there's the third step of following up regularly with Yahoo!. [blank space] [blank space]
